We need to optimize our website SEO for many reasons. The most basic reason being to get more traffic! SEO is an important tool to drive reasonable traffic to our website. How do we utilize that traffic? How do we monetize it? These are the questions we will look into in the next stage. For now, let’s focus on improving search engine optimization of our site.
It involves a complete strategy to get the SEO improved.
1. Make your website fully responsive
A site that isn’t responsive for various screen resolutions whether it is a desktop, laptop, tablet or a mobile device can easily result in a low rank SEO! You will want to make sure your website is completely optimized no matter the resolution. Often times, this can be achieved as most themes are built to be responsive in this day and age, but there are always options to hire a capable developer on platforms such as Upwork or Fiverr. In these times, the most popular way to view sites would be mobile, so you will want to make sure that is looking great and running smoothly.
If a site does not load within the first 10 seconds it will more than likely annoy your potential customer or client, causing them to move on to your competitor. Imagine going to a mall to purchase a t-shirt, and standing in line behind 15 people with only one cashier as opposed to just going to the store next door that sells the same item with 3 cashiers and 5 people in line. You’re more than likely going to go for the convenient experience. It’s human nature.
Websites have images. We get it. Images are eye-catching and often times reel in the customer or client. The downside to that is images actually slow down your website quite a bit. They need to be optimized and downsized to make sure they’re not pulling too much resources from your server. There may even be an image that you think will work better on your mobile site than your desktop. In an instance like that you’d want to hide the image on your desktop and keep it clean. No need for clutter.
2. Keywords optimized content
To find information on the web, people use search engines. Google, Bing, Baidu, Yahoo & Yandex are major search engines. These search engines collect data for the searches made on them and continuously analyze it. This data analysis is a complex process and it is different for each search engine.
Analysis of data shows which words or phrases are searched for how many times by people. Now if those words or phrases are part of the content at your website then your website would be potentially shown when the relevant search word/phrase applies.
These words and/or phrases are called ‘key words’ or ‘target keywords’. Researching, identifying, and inserting these ‘target keywords’ is a very strategical process. Time would need to be spent researching relevant keywords that are specific to your niche to identify their potential traffic, your competitors, and/or their value. Due to the amount of time that needs to be allocated to SEO, many people choose to hire a search engine optimization expert or SEO agency to handle on page optimization.
3. Linking keywords and alternative tags
Using keywords with relevant links improves the search engine ranking. This is also called linking text, anchor text or hyperlink. It will serve as a back link to the page it is referred to and will create a great value for both the reader and the website.
The graphic content of your site should always be described by relevant text. These are called alt tags. Search engine will locate your page through that description. There are quite a few people that prefer to keep their browser settings to read-only. Large image files will also load slowly sometimes resulting in the image alt tag to surface in the meantime.
4. Featured Snippets
Whenever you search for the answer of a certain question in a search engine it will reply you with a list of answers. Since Google captures the biggest share of net searches worldwide, Google answers visitor’s queries with snippets which contain the information about the search.
If we have answers to the queries often made at Google, included in the content at our website, then our website would also be shown in the results of Google, for that specific reply. Arranging the answer in paragraphs highlighting different sections would result in showing it as a list in Google search.
5. Backlinks
Lastly, there is off page SEO. Back-links are links to your website placed at other websites. If your website banners and ads appear and numerous sites, your site’s SEO rank would be presumably higher. This is called link building.
Conclusion
Now you have the basic list to improve your website SEO. You can follow these steps to improve your website SEO on your own to save money, or invest in a fully capable service to take your results to the next level. SEO not only puts a very positive impact over your site’s search ranking, it also boosts your sales as well. Therefore, investing wisely to improve SEO pays back in increased monetary profits to offset initial investments.
